Have you heard about the Plasma Pen and want to know more about it? Let’s fill you in!
What is Plasma Pen?
Plasma Pen is a non-invasive, skin tightening treatment. It is an effective alternative to a variety of surgical procedures. This FDA-approved treatment uses a device that delivers a controlled electric charge to emit plasma gas. According to Louise Walsh International, the electronic charge splits atoms into electrons to create a “plasma cloud” This cloud is made up of charged particles that contain free radicals, positively charged ions, and negatively charged electrons and molecules. The plasma created by the device transfers to the skin with absolute precision, leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed.
How Does It Work?
Initially, a Plasma Pen treatment creates micro-traumas to the outer layer of skin. These immediately cause the skin to tighten and contract. The plasma simultaneously penetrates deeper into the skin, stimulating accelerated fibroblast division and migration. It also helps to promote the natural formation of new blood vessels and the release of growth factors. The result is smoother, firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
Treatment Options
The Plasma Pen can treat numerous areas including the face, neck, and other places where there is excess or sagging skin. It can be an effective alternative to invasive and expensive plastic surgery procedures. Facial treatment options include:
- Forehead lines and wrinkles
- Furrowed brow and crows feet
- Marionette lines
- Nasolabial folds
- Lipstick lines
- Sagging jowl
The Plasma Pen is also a great non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty for upper and lower eyelids. Other areas of the body that can be treated are:
- Decollete
- Legs and knees
- Stomachs and stretchmarks
- Loose arm skin/sagging
- Skin tags, scars, and blemishes
- Thread or spider veins
- Turkey neck, and neck lines
Post-Treatment Care
You will be able to return to most normal activities immediately following treatment. The treatment area should be kept dry. Small scabs will result from the Plasma Pen treatment. These should be allowed to heal and fall off naturally. Don’t apply makeup to the treatment area until all the scabs are gone. Avoid UV exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunblock. There will be some swelling, especially around the eyes. While individual results may vary, the swelling should begin to subside about 2 days after treatment. Approximately 8 weeks after treatment, you may begin to use exfoliant skincare products, Retin-A, and those with any type of acid.
How Many Treatments? Are the Results Permanent?
The number of treatments to achieve the patient’s desired results can vary. Most patients see significant results after a single treatment. If a second treatment is required, it shouldn’t be done until 12 weeks after the first one. The results from the Plasma Pen treatment are permanent. However, the treatments do not stop the natural aging process. On average, the results remain intact for three years before they are impacted by aging. For those who sunbathe regularly or smoke and continue to do so, their results may be impacted sooner. The treatment results can also be further enhanced with facials, chemical peels, and fillers.
