Facial Rejuvenation – Everything You Want to Know

 In Aesthetics, Blog, Microneedling

Do you love the look and feel of your skin after a facial but would rather avoid treatments containing chemicals? If you prefer a more natural approach to skin care, you may want to consider facial rejuvenation. There is a lot of talk going on about this treatment and some of it may sound a little scary. Before you discount the benefits of facial rejuvenation, it’s best to completely understand what it is and how it works.

What is Facial Rejuvenation?

When receiving facial rejuvenationl, your own blood is used, so there is little chance of an allergic reaction or any side effects. Your clinician will draw your blood and the vial is then put into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins at an extremely high speed, causing the blood to separate into layers. It is effective because it contains five to ten times the concentration of platelets, which are integral to clotting and wound healing, as opposed to unprocessed blood.

Microneedling

During the microneedling procedure, the skin is punctured by multiple tiny needles, creating micro-injuries. The body naturally responds by increasing its collagen production to promote the healing of these injuries. Collagen is a natural protein present in all the body’s organs and tissues. A crucial part of the matrix that sustains the body’s structure, it provides integrity, firmness, and elasticity to tendons, skin, and cartilage. Increased collagen levels help to keep skin supple and healthy.

As we age, the body’s natural collagen production decreases, often resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. The signs of aging can be slowed down if collagen levels are increased. This is typically done by taking supplements, which are not always well-absorbed. The collagen produced by microneedling comes from within and is, therefore, more effective than supplements. This increased collagen combined with healing properties is like a one-two punch, providing knockout skin care results.

What to Expect

All of this can seem a little scary. Some have even nicknamed it the “vampire facial” but the benefits of  facial rejuvenation and microneedling are well worth the initial shock. Once your blood is drawn and put into the centrifuge, your clinician will apply a numbing agent to relieve any discomfort. While there isn’t really any downtime, you may experience some swelling and redness after the procedure. Ice is recommended to relieve this and you should not apply any makeup for at least 24 hours after being treated.
