SkinMedica has products that work for every skin type and can address a variety of issues. If you struggle with any of these, consult a medical professional. They will determine which SkinMedica products would be the best and develop a personalized skin care regimen.

Photodamage

The environmental factor that has the largest impact on the aging of skin is exposure to harmful UV rays from the sun. This results in photodamage which typically manifests itself in gradual changes in the skin such as advanced aging or wrinkling, uneven or pebbly skin and irregular pigmentation.

Age Spots

Melanocytes are the cells that produce the skin’s pigment. These cells are stimulated by UV rays and result in age spots, also called sunspots. They are commonly found on areas of the skin consistently exposed to the sun like the back of the hands, forearms, neck, chest and face.

Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles are the results of degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. They are also caused by movement of the skin, resulting in creases over time.

Acne-Prone Skin

A chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, acne affects at least 85% of adolescents and young adults. Acne is generally found on areas of the skin with well-developed sebaceous glands including the face, back, chest and upper arms. Characteristics of acne include inflamed pimples, cysts, blackheads, and whiteheads.

Dry Skin

Xerosis is the medical term for extremely dry skin. You can have dry skin naturally, due to logical conditions like underactive sebaceous glands, or it could be the result of environmental conditions. Skin will be dull, itchy or flaky and feel tight. Fine lines and wrinkles are typically more evident with dry skin.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is either normal to dry or normal to oily. Normal to dry skin generally looks dull around the cheek, eye, and lip area. It can be aggravated by hot, dry summer weather or indoor heating systems during the dry winter months.

Normal to oily skin is typically shiny and oily to the touch, especially on the forehead, chin, nose. During the course of the day or periods of stress, skin can transition to predominantly oily.
