Dysport Injections – Kiss Frown Lines and Crow’s Feet Goodbye

 In Aesthetics, Blog, Fillers

Just about everyone has heard of Botox, people have been talking about it for years. While Botox use to be the only game in town when it came to injectable fillers, this is no longer the case. There are a variety of different types of dermal fillers available, including Dysport.  Developed in the 1990s in the United Kingdom, Dysport was originally designed to treat muscle spasms, primarily in the head and neck, as well as a dermal filler used on forehead creases. In 2009, Dysport was approved by the FDA for use as a dermal filler and wrinkle relaxer. Several years prior to 2009, it was already widely popular in Europe and South America.

Mistaken Identity

Many people think that Botox and Dysport are the same – and there are similarities between the two products. Both are made from a neurotoxic protein called botulinum Type A, which is produced by the bacteria clostridium difficile. This protein blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. It was traditionally used to treat involuntary muscle spasms such as cerebral palsy and other motor disorders.

Botox and Dysport use botulinum Type A to relax muscle tissue, which reduces fine lines, creases, and wrinkles. Introduction of this protein stimulates the body to produce antibodies that combat it.

Benefits of Dysport

Dysport effectively reduces frown lines. It helps diminish the appearance of these unsightly lines by reducing muscle contraction in the brow and forehead area. It works beneath the skin to block the signal from the nerve to the muscle, and in turn, improve moderate to severe frown lines. It has also shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of crow’s feet.

Dysport results tend to be evident quicker than those produced by Botox, usually within just 1–3 days after treatment and can last up to 4 months. One injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, allowing the rest of your face to move naturally. Because it has a lower protein concentration than Botox, it spreads more evenly. This may produce softer, more natural-looking results. Dysport is sometimes recommended as an alternative for patients that are no longer seeing results after prolonged Botox use.

One of the best benefits of Dysport is that it is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure with virtually no downtime. Just like with any injectable, there’s no need to go under the knife to achieve a fresh, younger-looking appearance. Treatments normally take about 10 minutes and patients typically return to their normal activities immediately. It is recommended that patients don’t lie down for four hours after receiving injections.
